Bed, Breakfast, and Ballooning

In 1985 we were flying over some tall hills north of Southington when we came upon a couple waving up at us from the backyard of a large stone house. As fate would have it, one of the couples flying with us that day remarked that the house was the B&B they were staying in and the people waving at us were the owners Cynthia & Dan Cimmadamore. Not long after the flight I drove by the inn and met Cynthia & Dan and they showed me around their inn--Chimney Crest Manor.

New! Directions to the Chimney Crest Manor

The inn is a 32 room English Tudor mansion that sits on top of a hill overlooking the Central Connecticut and Farmington River valleys. Six of the rooms are used for the B&B. All the rooms have a private bath, queen or king sized beds, cable TV and have views of the valley to the east and south. Some of the rooms are even equipped with fireplaces. The accommodations feature a full breakfast served in the morning.

Cynthia's family acquired the house in 1950 and until the early 1970's it spent a 15 year period leased to a boys prep school. When the headmaster absconded with the upcoming year's tuition funds (and was last seen in a sailboat heading for the Azores--a true story!), Cynthia's parents moved back in and patiently remodeled the house one room at a time. The spectacular final product is what you see as you walk the halls today. It wasn't until the early 1980's that Cynthia and Dan decided to have a go at operating as a B&B.

You can find out more about Chimney Crest Manor at the following website:

Our package includes a one night stay for two, followed the next morning with a champagne balloon flight just after sunrise. Breakfast is served back at Chimney Crest Manor postflight.

What we liked about the inn was that it wasn't a glitzy hotel setting but more of a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that accented the idea of getting away for some rest and relaxation which includes ballooning.
